Information about the next Coach Bowls Level 1 course in Surrey
Completed in time for the Summer Season and the Big Bowls Weekend 2022
Dates of courses The Level 1 course is divided into essential theory and practice. During Covid the theoretical sessions have been tutored via Zoom, which has worked very well. 2 Zoom sessions have been set up on Monday 7th February 2022 at 5.00pm to 8pm and Monday 14th at 5.30pm to 8pm. If you’re not familiar with Zoom, Coach Bowls provides information to help you. The Practical Day will take place at Donyngs Indoor Bowling Club, Redhill, on Saturday 19th February 9am - 5.00pm. Your Assessment will be on Sunday 10th April, again at Donyngs IBC. After your Zoom sessions you will have plenty of time to complete a portfolio and, between your Practical Day and your Assessment, you will need to organize a couple of practice sessions. Like any skill,coaching needs to be practiced!
Cost and Bursaries The course leads to a National Qualification and is the only coaching course recognized by Bowls England and the EIBA. The cost is £130.00. 50% bursaries are available from Bowls England and the EIBA towards the cost of the course. The BE criteria enables two members of any affiliated club to apply for a bursary within any two year period – meaning that two members of the same club wishing to attend the same course can apply for funding support.
EIBA also provides a 50% bursary but has a slightly different arrangement. I suggest you read the information on both their websites.
Further Funding In addition it is worth candidates asking their outdoor or indoor club if they would fund part of the remaining cost although, after Covid, club funds may be tight. But every new bowler that joins the club after coaching is worth about £300.00 p.a. so they may feel that it is money well spent to support your course!
